Being able to connect with others in your industry is an exhilarating experience. You can spend time talking with someone who has a similar passion, a different point of view on the same topic, even a funny story that you can completely relate to. In the incredibly wise words of Amy Poehler, "As you navigate through the rest of your life, be open to collaboration. Other people and other people's ideas are often better than your own."
When did you know becoming an event/wedding planner was the career path you wanted to follow?
My senior year in high school, I was in charge of a big fundraiser that I had volunteered to do. I always viewed event planning as a fun hobby and never realized I could turn it into a career. The day before the fundraiser I was going over the final details and my dad was the one who pointed out that I could be a professional event planner. That summer I decided to test out the possible career choice and received an internship at an event planning and PR firm in Miami. I absolutely loved everything about it and ever since then I knew it was exactly what I wanted to do.
Everyone has his/her signature look, how would you describe your style?
I would describe my style in two words, simple elegance.
Many newly engaged couples are looking for a unique wedding experience, how do you find ways to ensure each wedding is a special one and unique to that couple?
Every couple is different and unique in their own way. I truly enjoy getting to know my clients to understand their likes and dislikes. The first part of my planning process is meeting the couple and asking them different questions to get to know more about them individually and as a couple. Once I get to know them it becomes very simple to cater the wedding to their particular wants and needs. No wedding is the same because no couple is the same. If you truly get to know your clients the unique element of a wedding happens naturally.
Do you have a favorite wedding moment you look forward to each time?
My favorite wedding moment is when the reception space is revealed to the couple for the first time. This is the moment they get to see all of their hard work come together to create something beautiful. The look of awe and happiness that comes across their faces is the best feeling in the world. I love knowing that I was a part of making their dream wedding come true.
What would be your number one piece of wedding planning advice for newly engaged couples?
My number one piece of advice for newly engaged couples would be to take some time to enjoy your engagement before jumping in to the wedding planning. Once the planning begins make sure to have fun with it. You want to be able to look back and love the experience you shared with your family and friends.
