Joey + Amanda | Styled Couple Session

Photo Cred: Lauren Louise Photography

I met with Lauren of Lauren Louise Photography for the first time about a week ago after a random connection made through Instagram. Soon after I was rummaging through an antique fair in middle of nowhere Orlando, looking for the perfect pieces for a styled session featuring her photography.

The Details:

  • It was going to be with a local couple, the most snuggly couple she'd ever met.
  • We were shooting on an abandoned golf course.
  • The couple's style was laid back and casual, the kind of people you would see driving in an old Chevy truck with the windows down for a Levi's commercial.

The second I saw this blanket I had a feeling it would be a perfect fit. I instantly snapped a photo and direct messaged Lauren to see if she agreed. She did, and I am thrilled with the color and texture this one piece brought to their photos.

Tip: Never go to a shoot without a blanket, sheet, tablecloth, anything that you can lie down on or wrap around your shoulders. They bring textural and graphic interest, and keep your backs and tooshes off the dirt.

When this trunk is not busy being a handsome model, he resides in my home looking just as lovely. There's just something about old trunks that bring a handmade element and a sense of history to any picture.

Tip: Fill your trunk up with any additional props you think may be useful. Always pack rope or string and a pair of scissors.

Styled engagement shoot

I found this incredible Kilim wool pillow during the same Orlando trip. It had a classic Bohemian pattern I couldn't pass up. Throw pillows can make an abandoned overgrown golf course look homey.

Tip: Bring a great pillow to every shoot set outdoors. You never know if the perfect spot is going to be right on top of a knobby tree root.

Flowers are a necessity. I ran to Costco right after work, picked up a $6 bunch that matched their shoot's style and threw them in a vase of water to avoid any wilting.

Tip: Bring flowers. Worst case scenario you wind up with a fresh bouquet to come home to for the next week.
